Networking technology provider Netgear has introduced a new range of Orbi Tri-band Wi-Fi systems that should help bring its technology to a wider range of home and small business users.
The company said that the latest additions to the range, which are specifically designed for smaller premises, address a broad range of requirements in response to customer demands for better Wi-Fi performance.
Among the latest products on offer is the RBK30 system, which includes an AC2200 router and wall-plug satellite designed to cover an area of up to 3,500 square feet.
The other new addition is the RBK40, which also features an AC2200 router and matching satellite, but offers coverage of up to 4,000 square feet.
David Henry, senior vice-president of home networking devices for Netgear, said: "Today, Wi-Fi is now considered to be as critical as any other home utility. You would not be willing to settle for sub-par electrical coverage or inadequate plumbing and you should not be expected to contend with a wireless network that does not deliver the coverage and performance you need."
He added that with the expanded portfolio of Orbi Tri-band systems, all customers will be able to enjoy high-speed Wi-Fi performance, enabling users to handle even the most high-bandwidth applications without interruption, even at the furthest reaches of the Wi-Fi's range.
The RBk30 and RBK40 follow on from the first Obri Tri-band system, the RBK50, which was introduced last year and has won rave reviews. Time magazine, for example, described the Tri-band technology as "the magic that makes Orbi the best mesh networking router I've used yet", while the technology was also named among the Best of Innovation Awards Honorees at the CES 2017 show.
The Orbi system's Tri-Band technology uses a dedicated 5GHz wireless connector between the router and satellite to provide fast, reliable Wi-Fi coverage. All systems within the range use industry-leading 802.11ac technology to deliver Wi-Fi speeds of up to 2.2Gbps , while the use of additional satellites can extend Wi-Fi signals throughout a home or small business premises while maintaining a single network name.
Mr Henry said that all the Orbi products including the AC2200 router offer faster performance than solutions using the legacy AC1200 Wi-Fi. He added: "All Orbi home Wi-Fi systems are Tri-band versus the competition which are dual band mesh. Due to the use of the innovative Tri-band technology, multiple independent reviewers and testers around the world have proven that Orbi Wi-Fi systems deliver far superior performance for more simultaneously streaming devices."
